Today I visited Nanis on Great Portland Street. I'd been recommended the place by my boss, upon hearing about my sausage sandwich quest, telling me it's well renowned locally for it's cumberland sausages. To my surprise, when I entered I couldn't see any sausages on the menu- until I wandered into the back of the shop and realised they had a separate counter for hot drinks and breakfast- how delightful! I ordered a cumberland sausage sandwich on white, buttered and slightly toasted bread. The sausages were cooked in a proper hot plate grill and not microwaved. All for £2.30. I received my sandwich wrapped in a foil package, but it was not quite as satisfying as the Make Mine wrapper- being a bit on the thin side.
I was disappointed to find upon unwrapping that the sandwich had been cut into four slices. I find this an inconvenient configuration as the sausages tend to slip out more easily. Also, much more work is required when applying sauces as each of the four tops much be lifted and placed back. Due to this my expectations had been lowered, however it turned out to contain the most delicious sausages that I had eaten in a very long time and this combined with the perfect amount of butter on the bread was delectable.
It is unfortunate then that I can only give this sandwich a 7.5/10. The quality of the bead combined with overenthusiastic slicing did taint my enjoyment somewhat. Perhaps I shall go back another day and request a different type of bread and slicing style.

I love Drupal and I'm a regular listener to the Lullabot Drupal Podcast. Usually I lap up everything these guys have to say, but I was most surprised at this week's episode (63) to hear them talking about Rasmus Lerdorf's talk at Drupalcon about testing different PHP frameworks for effeciency etc. I have heard them talk before about Drupal being used a framework, this time they mentioned how it's so different to all the others out there- in order for a page to be made with Drupal, a module has to be created, functions hooked into, callbacks made, pigs sacraficed... I think they're misunderstanding the concept of what a framework is and the complexity involved in making that page should be telling them something. Drupal is a fantastic extensible CMS but I don't think it should be put in the same category as things like Zend Framework or CodeIgniter. The other thing that makes me worry was when they said Drupal came about the middle of the pack with regards to performance, but people were shifting in their seats as anonymous page caching hadn't been turned on. Turning on anonymous page caching does not test the performance of your application, the only thing that it tests is the ability of your web server to chuck out raw HTML.
